The satellite preliminary design aspects are discussed in this guiding textbook. The variety of aims, requirements and constraints of satellite space mission and their role is overviewed. The spacecraft contains different interconnected subsystems. Depending on mission requirements, different satellite configurations might be utilized. Mass allocation, orbit design aspects, introduction to attitude determination and control system, thermal and power subsystems characteristics are considered in the educational manual. An integration of spacecraft element design with a system engineering is presented. As an example the design process of a remote sensing satellite on Sun-synchronous orbit is described.
