The book is devoted to the finite element method, which is actively used to solve static and dynamic elasticity problems. Using the example of the problem of one-dimensional loading of an elastic rod with a variable cross-section, the procedure for constructing a defining system of linear algebraic equations of the FEM is described. Various boundary conditions, the case of constant parameters of the problem along the axis of the rod are considered. All calculations are given for linear and quadratic basis functions. It is intended for students studying computer science and computational mathematics, in the form of practice on the implementation of computational algorithms.
